Tips from Tom Ross

February 2026

  • Start fresh… get a soil test! Testing your soil is the best first step towards a more beautiful lawn, a more productive garden, and a more environmentally friendly home. Learn More.

  • When cold weather comes around, feeding our feathered friends is very helpful. We have Oklahoma grown Ross Black Oil Sunflower Seed and Ross Premium Wild Bird Seed in stock right now.

  • Winterize your home NOW! We have weather strips, heat tape, heat bulbs, gas and electric heaters, outdoor faucet covers, pipe insulation, and lots more.

  • A product containing glyphosate PLUS a broadleaf herbicide can be used on dormant Bermuda in February, when temperatures are above 50 degrees, for winter weed and grass control.

  • Now is a great time to fertilize ornamental fruit and nut trees, and shrubs.

  • Don’t let your plants suffer. Give your plants a drink periodically during dry spells.

  • We have a great selection of mulch to protect your plants from the harsh Oklahoma weather: No Float Cypress, Grade A Cedar and Grade A Redwood, and Cottonseed Hulls.

  • Apply soil amendments to your flower beds and garden for better results this Spring.  We suggest: Peat Moss, HUMALFA Nature’s Prescription, Cotton Burr Compost, The Cow Organic Compost and Manure.

  • Gardening season is right around the corner!  Begin the vegetable garden with cool season crops such as potatoes, onions, and radishes.  Beets, lettuce, spinach, and edible pod peas can all be planted in February, depending on weather conditions.
